Mio Technology website - press section
A new Press room
The main goals were to improve the relation with the press, and to communicate the Mio strengths better.
We focused on making it easier for journalists to do research and contact the PR staff.

Project outline
Implementation of a tag system
The Reddot CMS allowed us to use a tag system with a hierarchy and the option to add multiple tags to a press release. After card sorting all the existing press releases we decided organize them in 2 main groups with each their own tags.
We kept the original press release year pages (one for each year), and added a page for product and one for corporate press releases.
Product tags:
- for every product
- for every navigation software
- for every launch event
- lifestyle
- awards
Corporate tags:
- legal
- management
- partnerships
- financial results
- sponsorship
Tag based content
We made the assigned tags generate content on the press release pages:
- Related press releases
- Related pages
- Related image galleries
- Related Awards & reviews
This made it easier for journalists to find related information.

Semantic press releases with multiple styling options
I defined areas of styling improvements and grouped repeated content on the existing press releases. The main press release template was written semantically and a h-entry microformat was implemented.
Multiple styling options and automated systems were provided for the press release content: multiple semantic text styles, a note system, a boiler plate system, easy embedding of photos + templates for each total number of photos. Every image was linked to its high resolution version on the image bank.
Guidelines were provided on how to write new press releases and how to rewrite existing ones with styling embedded in the HTML. The new process made it possible for the PR staff to write better looking and more useful press releases themselves without the involvement of the webteam to recreate Word documents in the website (old process). By linking existing notes & boiler plates to a press release, translation time was reduced as well.

Optimized for print
The print stylesheet removed all the website layout, and optimized the content styling for print. By making all the links visible the PR staff could sent out the rendered PDF file to journalists with all the extra features of the new press section.

Easy contact with the PR staff
On the old website it was not easy to find press contact information.
On the new website, every press related page has the country specific press contact attached or/and a link to the new press contacts page.
The new press contact cards provide more crucial information like personal telephone numbers, and highlighted the international appeal (languages, timezone & availability hours). They were written in the h-card microformat and included a downloadable vcard.
High resolution photos
I made a strategy to connect the old imagebank with the new Reddot CMS without changing it. Each tag in the CMS has additional fields to input the imagebank category & primary image links.
The imagebank could render thumbs by adding arguments to the image url. This allowed us to easily add images to a press release, and let the CMS templates render the images inside and high resolution links at the bottom of the press release.
The press release tagging system added the related imagebank section buttons.

A dedicated awards & reviews page
The old website only had an awards & reviews page for each product in the product section.
A news section would only be possible in a next phase. By restructuring the current awards & reviews in a dedicated page in the press room, we could already fulfill the journalist's need for third party information.
The page was linked from all the press room pages, and the press releases had direct links to the related awards & reviews with the tagging system.

Linking corporate info
Corporate information about Mio was linked & mentioned intensively from the press room pages.
- reusable boiler plates in press releases
- a regularly updated press kit
- links to specific "about Mio" pages from the press releases and other press room pages.
